# Quickstart

> From your credentials to your first transcript.

This walks through getting an access token and reading your first transcript in the sandbox.
Step 1 gets the token. Steps 2 to 4 use it.

## Before you start

Have your sandbox `client_id` and `client_secret` handy. Credentials are issued per environment.

## 1. Get an access token

Open [Get a token](https://docs.taxrock.com/direct-access/api-reference/authentication/token.md), fill in your `client_id` and
`client_secret`, and **Run** it. Or send the request yourself:

The response includes an `access_token`. Cache it and reuse it until it expires.

## 2. List taxpayers

Open [List taxpayers](https://docs.taxrock.com/direct-access/api-reference/taxpayers/list.md), paste your `access_token` as the
bearer credential, and **Run**. Or:

  --header "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_ACCESS_TOKEN"
```

Pick a taxpayer and keep its `id`.

## 3. List the taxpayer's transcripts

[List a taxpayer's Wage & Income transcripts](https://docs.taxrock.com/direct-access/api-reference/taxpayers/wage-and-income.md)
returns one entry per tax year:

```

Keep the `id` of a transcript.

## 4. Fetch the transcript

[Get a Wage & Income transcript](https://docs.taxrock.com/direct-access/api-reference/transcripts/wage-and-income.md) returns
the year's information returns and a summary:
